After Dan Crenshaw's Resignation, Trump Appoints Adam Thierry Acting Secretary of the Army

President Donald Trump announced Friday morning the appointment of Adam Thierry, former Assistant Secretary of the Army Dan Crenshaw, to the position of Acting Secretary of the Army.

Trump wrote on his social platform "Truth Social": "I am pleased to announce that Adam Thierry, currently serving as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civilian Affairs, will assume the duties of Acting Secretary of the Army effective immediately."

Trump praised the new Army Secretary, describing him as "a loyal patriot respected by all," according to his statement.

Thierry was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of the Army in August 2025, following U.S. Senate confirmation of his appointment.

Crenshaw submitted his resignation to President Trump, a move reflecting deep divisions and ongoing tensions within the American administration, particularly with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Crenshaw’s departure—himself a former soldier and longtime personal friend of Vice President J.D. Vance—followed months of friction with Hegseth, amid the sixth consecutive month of conflict with Iran and no signs of an imminent end, according to (CNN).

The network quoted a source saying Crenshaw raised in his resignation speech "concerns about the administration’s vision regarding military transformation and readiness, and specifically highlighted Hegseth’s obstruction of these efforts through the dismissal of generals overseeing them."

A senior U.S. military official told the network that Crenshaw "spoke directly with President Trump about the current state of the Army and submitted his resignation."

It remains unclear when Crenshaw will officially leave his post; it is customary for the Under Secretary of the Army to temporarily assume the secretary’s duties.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly stated: "Secretary Crenshaw was highly effective in advancing President Trump’s agenda to make America strong again within the Department of the Army."

She added in a statement that Crenshaw "provided outstanding leadership during historic military operations, refocused attention on readiness and lethality, and contributed to negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, among other responsibilities."
