Australian Prime Minister to Raise Tariff Concerns with Trump

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated on Sunday that he intends to discuss the issue of tariffs with U.S. President Donald Trump. This follows the recent imposition of new tariffs by Washington on several trading partners, including Australia.

On Friday, the United States introduced new tariffs on goods imported from 60 trading partners. The U.S. accused these countries of failing to curb trade in products made with forced labor, coinciding with the expiration of a temporary global 10% tariff.

The Albanese-led Australian government described these tariffs as unjustified and expressed its efforts to have them revoked.

When asked on Sunday whether he would seek to raise this matter with President Trump, Albanese responded, "Definitely."

He added in televised remarks, "We will raise this issue at all levels within the framework of Australia-U.S. relations, and we have already done so."

Under the new measures implemented by the Trump administration, imports from Australia and 37 other countries face a 12.5% tariff. Seventeen countries are subject to a 10% tariff, while five countries encounter varying tariff rates.
