Barak Calls SDF Dissolution and Integration “Historic Development”
U.S. Syria envoy Tom Barak described the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and their integration into Syrian state institutions as a “historic development in every sense of the word.”

U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barak characterized the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its integration into Syrian state institutions as a “historic development in every sense of the word.”
In a post on the platform X commenting on the decision, Barak stated that “President Donald Trump’s far-sighted leadership paved the way for the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces into Syrian state institutions.”
He added that “the integration of the SDF into Syrian state institutions transforms division into lasting partnership and restores to the people the opportunity to shape their shared future — this is genuine integration.”
Barak affirmed that “ensuring a role for our partners Muzlum Abdi and Ilham Ahmed in the Syrian government is a well-deserved recognition of their leadership and of the sacrifices made by our Kurdish partners.”
He concluded: “There are no victors and no vanquished — only parties with differing viewpoints, engaging one another to forge a diplomatic solution that strengthens Syrian state sovereignty. One army, one government, one state.”
