National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his wife Ayala sparked a noisy controversy in Israel, following their provocation of political and security circles during the extremist minister's 50th birthday celebration last Saturday evening.

The "Walla" website reported that Ben Gvir withdrew invitations to a large number of police officers and instructed Commissioner General Danny Levi to inform the officers during the weekend that attendance at the ceremony is limited only to members of the police high command, which sparked a wave of condemnation among the officers.

During the celebration, the minister's wife, Ayala, provoked followers of videos and photos circulated on social media when she presented her husband with an unconventional gift: a cake engraved with a picture of a noose; in a clear reference to the passing of a law for the execution of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.

Ayala wrote on the cake: "Congratulations, Minister Ben Gvir, sometimes dreams come true."

The Hebrew website commented on the event, stating that it "takes place at a time when murder rates in Arab areas within Israel are witnessing a record high; the latest of which was the killing of two people at the same time as the ceremony, last Saturday, in the Ramla area."

It noted that the total number of fatalities in Arab areas has reached 98 fatalities since the beginning of this year, including 8 women.
