The Mayor of Kyiv announced that a vital bridge in the Ukrainian capital was struck by a drone, coinciding with the visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to the city. According to "Rans Press" agency.

As shown in a video circulating on the "X" platform, the moment the Northern "Pivenichnyi" Bridge spanning the Dnieper River in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was targeted by a Russian guided cruise missile; resulting in damage to the concrete surface of the bridge and tram network lines, and leading to disruption of traffic between the two banks of the city.

This strike comes amid a new escalation targeting transport lines and infrastructure, at a time when the capital is seeking to strengthen its air defenses and confront the repercussions of increasing aerial attacks.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for an unannounced visit, as reported by "AFP" from non-governmental sources in Berlin.
The sources said Economy Minister Katarina Reich accompanies Merz, whose country is one of Ukraine's largest supporters in its war against Russia.

It is expected that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will announce a new package of measures to support Ukraine in facing Russia, including an additional billion euros in German military aid, along with 350 million euros ($395 million) for energy sector repairs, according to German media reports.

Russia renewed on Saturday its call for diplomats and foreigners present in Kyiv to leave, warning that its forces will continue to carry out "large-scale retaliatory strikes" on the Ukrainian capital, according to "AFP".
