Colombia Sees 48 Dead in Armed Clashes Ahead of Presidential Vote
Fighting between two dissident armed groups in Colombia has resulted in 48 fatalities just days before the presidential election.

In Colombia, violent confrontations between two factions that split from the former FARC armed group have led to the deaths of 48 individuals, according to a statement from the mayor of San José del Guaviare reported on Thursday.
These clashes occurred shortly before the presidential elections scheduled for the 31st of this month.
The country is experiencing a surge in violence unseen in over ten years, as rebel groups vie for control over territory and the profits from drug trafficking and illegal mining in the Guaviare province, located in central Colombia.
Escalating Violence Ahead of Elections
According to the mayor of San José del Guaviare, Willy Rodríguez, "the bodies are piled up there and need to be removed," highlighting the severity of the situation.
Authorities have so far been unable to access the remote area where the clashes took place, complicating efforts to manage the aftermath.
