Colombian security forces intercepted more than 1.3 tons of cocaine hidden in a shipping container on a vessel headed to Europe.
Colombian authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 1.3 tons of cocaine concealed inside a shipping container aboard a commercial vessel destined for Europe.
The operation took place in the Gulf of Urabá following a tip-off received by the anti-narcotics police regarding a suspicious container on a ship flying the Liberian flag.
Laboratory tests later confirmed that the shipment contained approximately 1,300 kilograms of high-purity cocaine hydrochloride.
Security agencies also confiscated advanced satellite navigation equipment (GPS) that was in possession of the traffickers.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shipment was en route to several European destinations, notably the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, with an estimated market value in Europe exceeding 72 million US dollars.
