Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said today, Sunday, that a "serious incident" caused a large fire to break out at a military base in the province of "Alberta," without revealing details of the incident.

Carney stated in a post on his account on the "X" platform that the incident occurred at the "Wainwright" base belonging to the Canadian Forces, approximately 210 kilometers east of "Edmonton."

He added: "We are working closely with the Government of Alberta and local authorities; I am in constant communication with the Premier of the Province, Ms. Smith, and there is close coordination between our ministers and relevant officials."

Press sources reported that a massive fire broke out at the mentioned base and flames spread beyond the base boundaries due to strong winds pushing the tongues of flame toward surrounding areas.

Firefighting teams and medical crews rushed to the scene of the incident, while the full extent of the disaster remains unknown so far.

It is noted that the Canadian military base "Wainwright" is one of the busiest army bases in Canada, according to "Reuters."

Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty confirmed the occurrence of deaths and injuries, while Prime Minister Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith are coordinating emergency response efforts.

A spokesperson for the Canadian Department of National Defence said the government is monitoring the situation closely and will provide additional information as soon as it becomes available.

For its part, the municipality of "Wainwright" reported that the fire breached the base fence and extended into the neighboring area earlier on Saturday, and intensive work is underway to extinguish it, while no evacuation orders have been issued.
