The total number of confirmed Ebola deaths in Congo has increased to 648 cases as of Thursday, according to a report detailing infections and fatalities recorded in the preceding 24 hours.
The previously announced death toll on Thursday stood at 625 cases.
On Friday, the country's Health Minister, Roger Kamba, stated that the authorities have officially expanded the list of affected areas to include the Chopo and Haut-Uele provinces located in the northern and northeastern regions of the country.
On May 17, the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreaks in Congo and Uganda as a global health emergency due to the threat posed to other countries. The organization assesses the regional risk of virus spread as high.
