Egypt: 11 Defendants Sentenced to Hard Labor in 'Tasamoh ISIS' Case
A Cairo criminal court sentenced 11 defendants to five years of hard labor for joining a terrorist group in the case known as 'Tasamoh ISIS.'

The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced 11 defendants to five years of hard labor in the case known in the media as "Tasamoh ISIS," based on charges of joining a terrorist organization.
The verdict was issued in Case No. 337 of 2025, First District Felony, after reviewing the case concerning the convicted individuals who joined a terrorist group established with the aim of disrupting public order and endangering societal safety and security.
According to the referral order, the facts attributed to the defendants date back to the period from 2020 until February 16, 2021, where the Public Prosecution accused them of joining a terrorist group founded by one of the defendants, who later died, with knowledge of its objectives.
The referral order stated that the group's goals, according to the charges, included suspending constitutional and legal provisions, preventing state institutions and public authorities from performing their duties, violating citizens' personal freedoms, and harming national unity and social peace.
This case falls under those handled by Egypt's terrorism circuits, which are responsible for trying defendants in crimes related to establishing or joining terrorist groups, or committing acts associated with them, as referred by the Public Prosecution to competent courts.
The charges in such cases rely on Counter-Terrorism Law No. 94 of 2015, which established a legal framework for criminalizing the establishment of terrorist groups, joining them, and financing them, alongside defining penalties for acts linked to terrorist activities.
