Egyptian authorities detained a woman who threatened a ride-hailing driver by falsely claiming her husband was a police officer.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video in which a woman verbally abused and threatened a taxi driver, asserting that her husband served as a police officer in Cairo. Security officials confirmed that no formal reports had been filed regarding the incident prior to the investigation.
Investigative procedures identified the driver as a resident of Qalyubia Governorate operating for a smart transport company. According to his statement, the confrontation occurred on October 17 within the jurisdiction of the Nasr City First Police Station.
The driver reported that he asked the female passenger to cancel the trip after she boarded with more individuals than the vehicle could accommodate. He stated that she responded with verbal abuse and threats of physical harm, invoking the alleged status of her husband to intimidate him. The driver recorded the interaction to document the events.
Security forces located and detained the woman featured in the footage, identifying her residence as being within the Fifth Settlement Police Station district. During questioning, she admitted that she had never been married.
She confessed to fabricating the claim about her husband’s profession solely to frighten the driver after he began recording her abusive behavior. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against her in connection with the incident.
