Libya's Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, met with Hassan Rashad, head of Egypt's General Intelligence Directorate, to discuss recent political developments in Libya, signaling increased coordination between Cairo and Tripoli.

The meeting took place in Tripoli on Sunday as part of ongoing consultations between the two sides concerning the evolving Libyan situation and regional issues of mutual interest. These discussions are part of continuous efforts to advance the political process and maintain stability within Libya.

According to statements from the Government of National Unity, the two officials addressed several political and security matters. They emphasized the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Libya in the coming period, as well as supporting initiatives aimed at unifying Libyan national institutions and consolidating a peaceful political path that preserves Libya's unity and sovereignty.

The talks also explored prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors to serve the shared interests of the Libyan and Egyptian peoples and contribute to development and reconstruction efforts.

During the meeting, Brigadier General Hassan Rashad conveyed greetings from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Prime Minister Dbeibeh. He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination with Libya in multiple fields and supporting all measures that promote security and stability for the Libyan people.

In response, Dbeibeh sent his regards and appreciation to President el-Sisi through the Egyptian intelligence chief. He praised the historical and fraternal ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of maintaining ongoing cooperation and coordination between Cairo and Tripoli during the forthcoming period.

Egypt shares a border with Libya extending over 1,200 kilometers, making Libya's stability directly linked to Egypt's national security.

Over recent years, Cairo has played a central role in supporting political settlement efforts and preserving the unity of Libyan institutions, in addition to backing pathways leading to comprehensive national elections.

Relations between Egypt and Libya's Government of National Unity have notably improved recently, marked by intensified communications and reciprocal visits, particularly amid growing regional and international consensus on the need to avoid escalation and support political solutions to the Libyan crisis.
