The office of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reported today, Saturday, that he informed US President Donald Trump in a phone call that Ankara will continue its efforts toward peace and that tensions between Iran and the United States should be resolved through diplomatic channels.

Erdogan added, according to a statement issued by his office, that Turkey will also continue supporting efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, and that contacts with both Kyiv and Moscow must be intensified, according to Reuters agency.

These statements come within the framework of intense regional moves to contain escalation, coinciding with communications conducted by several countries with Washington and Tehran to bring both parties back to the negotiating table.

Ankara seeks to leverage its relations with both sides to support the political path and avoid a new military confrontation that could have wide-ranging implications for regional security and the global economy.

Diplomatic moves come amid fears of renewed military strikes, especially after Washington announced limited strikes against Iranian targets near Qesh Island, according to President Trump's statements.

Developments indicate that mediation efforts face significant challenges, given the ongoing disagreements regarding the Iranian nuclear program, the Strait of Hormuz, and US sanctions.
