The Finnish Ministry of Defense announced today, Sunday, the detection of an unknown drone suspected of violating Finnish airspace in Virolahti near the border with Russia. The Finnish Air Force detected the drone early Sunday, and "the model of the drone or where it came from has not been identified," the statement said, noting that the drone was no longer in Finnish airspace.

The Finnish Ministry of Defense announced today, Sunday, the detection of an unknown drone suspected of violating Finnish airspace in Virolahti near the border with Russia.

The Finnish Air Force detected the drone early Sunday, and "the model of the drone or where it came from has not been identified," the statement said, noting that the drone was no longer in Finnish airspace.

The statement confirmed that the Finnish Border Guard is investigating the incident and provided no further details.

The border between Finland and Russia extends for 1340 kilometers.

In a related context, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Sunday, that its air defense units intercepted 334 Ukrainian drones overnight in about 15 regions, some near the city of Saint Petersburg, about 150 kilometers from Virolahti.

Last March, Ukraine apologized to Helsinki after two Ukrainian drones crashed in southern Finland, likely having deviated from their course due to Russian interference.
