President Alexander Stubb ratifies amendments removing Finland's ban on importing, manufacturing, storing, and using nuclear weapons, effective July 1.

President Alexander Stubb of Finland has approved legislative amendments to the Nuclear Energy Act and the Penal Code that eliminate the existing prohibition on the import, manufacture, storage, and use of nuclear weapons within the country.
This development was confirmed through an official document published on the Finnish government's website. The Finnish Parliament had previously ratified these legislative changes on June 17, with the document affirming the president's endorsement of the proposal.
Defense Minister Antti Haakanen stated that these amendments will officially come into force on July 1.
Responding to this change, the Russian Embassy in Helsinki declared in earlier remarks that Moscow will consider the potential presence of nuclear weapons on Finnish territory in its military planning and will implement all necessary measures to ensure its security.
The parliamentary vote on June 17 demonstrated clear majority support for the decision, with 125 members voting in favor, 61 opposing, and 13 abstaining. This outcome reflects the new legislative direction in Finland and provides the decision with clear parliamentary legitimacy and majority backing.
