A fire broke out at the Karun Petrochemical Complex, a key petrochemical facility in southwest Iran, but was quickly contained with no casualties reported.

A fire erupted at the Karun Petrochemical Complex, recognized as one of the main petrochemical facilities in southwest Iran, local media reported on Friday.
The Iranian Broadcasting and Television Organization’s news agency stated that firefighting teams at the Karun Petrochemical Company managed to control a limited fire that broke out around midday on Friday in one section of the facility. The incident occurred during debris removal and security measures following recent attacks targeting the area.
The company’s public relations department explained that the fire started in unit number 280, where a partial blaze was swiftly brought under control by the company’s firefighting and emergency teams in coordination with relevant authorities. The fire was fully extinguished within a short period.
Officials confirmed that the incident caused no human or material losses, adding that the situation inside the complex has returned to normal and remains fully controlled. Technical investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
On June 8, the Israeli military announced that it had conducted strikes targeting petrochemical industrial sites in southwest Iran. The operation reportedly included targets within both the Mahshahr Petrochemical Complex and the Karun Petrochemical Complex.
At that time, Iranian authorities acknowledged damage to facilities at the Karun Petrochemical Complex. Official Iranian sources indicated that the attack resulted in limited material injuries without any human casualties, and workers at the site were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The Karun company is among Iran’s prominent petrochemical industry facilities. It was established in 2002 through a partnership between the National Iranian Petrochemical Company and several foreign partners from Sweden and Germany. Subsequently, the foreign partners’ shares were transferred to Iranian entities.
Karun is known as the first producer of isocyanates in the Middle East, a key chemical used in manufacturing polyurethane. This material is essential in industrial and residential insulation, as well as in the production of automotive parts, furniture, and coatings.
Company data indicates that since its founding, Karun has expanded through multiple production phases to include a broad range of chemical and petrochemical products with various industrial applications.
