French police detained 135 people and seized a variety of weapons as part of their deployment to secure demonstrations across the country, amid instructions to prevent renewed street violence, according to French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.

Nuñez clarified that the seized weapons included metal balls, lead pellets, fireworks, slingshots, steel balls, improvised weapons, and other items, noting "no major incidents have been recorded" so far.

Several regions in France are witnessing new protests against the rising cost of living, amid fears that they may be marred by violence and looting similar to those that shook the country during the October 17 demonstrations.

The authorities confirmed the deployment of approximately 70,000 police officers and gendarmes, an increase of about 20 percent compared to last week.
