Intrusion at Kamala Harris's Home at Night; Security Raises Alert Level

On Friday night, a woman entered the property of former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff in Malibu, California, without authorization, prompting intervention by security personnel and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Harris and her husband were not at the residence at the time of the incident, and the woman departed the premises voluntarily without being detained.

"Security personnel stopped an individual who entered the property of Vice President Harris and Mr. Emhoff unlawfully before reaching the residence," said Eduardo Negron, spokesperson for Harris.

He added that Harris and Emhoff were not present and expressed gratitude to security and law enforcement agencies for their swift response.

Security personnel stationed on the property contacted the Malibu Sheriff's Office, which responded and arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m.

The woman’s identity has not been disclosed, but she agreed to leave the premises and was not arrested.

"The Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's Deputy Jason Duren stated that authorities will increase patrols around the property as a precautionary measure," said the deputy.

The motive behind the woman’s entry into the property remains unclear, and there are no indications that the incident was politically motivated.

Rumors about how close the woman came to the house varied. While Harris’s spokesperson said security intercepted her before she reached the building, KTLA reported she managed to reach the front door.

No property damage or attempts to enter the home were reported by authorities.

The incident has renewed attention on Harris’s security, as former vice presidents typically receive protection from the Secret Service for six months after leaving office.

Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris’s security coverage, but President Donald Trump canceled this extension in August 2025, according to reports.

Following that, law enforcement agencies in California and Los Angeles had to step in to secure Harris.

Los Angeles Police Department later ended its involvement amid criticism over diverting officers from other duties, while California Highway Patrol continued providing security support, though its personnel were not present at the property on the night of the incident.

Harris and Emhoff recently purchased a home in Malibu’s exclusive Point Dume neighborhood for approximately $8.15 million this year.

In January 2025, police were also called to their previous residence in Brentwood following a report of a potential break-in, during which two individuals were detained before being released due to lack of evidence proving criminal intent.
