The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Tehran has entered a new round of negotiations mediated by Pakistan.
The ministry said in a statement that Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed this through contacts he made with foreign ministers in the region. It added that Araghchi stressed that Tehran is ready to continue diplomacy, saying that his country "is ready to continue diplomacy if the United States changes its excessive demands, its threatening rhetoric, and its provocative actions."
It noted that the minister appreciated the efforts that prevent the dangerous repercussions of any new military aggression.
The Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported earlier on Friday that Tehran submitted "its latest negotiation proposals to Pakistan, as the mediator in talks with the United States, on Thursday night," without providing additional details.
Later, the White House declined to comment on those proposals, and Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly said: "We do not disclose details of private discussions."
In a statement quoted by Agence France-Presse, she added: "President Donald Trump has made it clear that Iran should never possess nuclear weapons, and negotiations are ongoing to ensure the national security of the United States in the short and long term."
