Iran's New Supreme Leader Injured, Wife Killed in First Strikes of War

Injuries to Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the death of his wife occurred during the very first strikes of the war on Iran, according to new details from a senior official in the office of his late father, Ali Khamenei.

Mozafar Hosseini, who oversees meetings in Ali Khamenei's office, told Iran International that Mojtaba sustained injuries to his knee, back, and behind the ear. The bombing targeted what Hosseini described as a site belonging to the former Supreme Leader, with a bomb landing approximately 30 meters from where Mojtaba was in the office.

Hosseini added that several others were wounded alongside Mojtaba in the strike, including Mohammad Shirazi, head of the elder Khamenei's military office. The bombing hit Ali Khamenei's workplace from a distance of 70 to 80 meters.

According to Hosseini, Mojtaba Khamenei was caught in the bombing, which resulted in his wife's death. As he moved inside the building, he was hit by a blast wave that knocked him to the ground.

The injuries included minor damage to the knee and back. Hosseini stated that the back has since healed, the knee is expected to improve soon, and a light injury behind the ear occurred but remains hidden because it is under his turban.

The opposition channel reported that Hosseini claimed Mojtaba's condition has been fully treated and that he is now in good health.

Official Accounts and Public Absence

Tasnim News Agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guard, published a video of Hosseini speaking before crowds in Tehran. The agency said the video contained "clarifications" from the head of visitation affairs in the elder Khamenei's office regarding the health of the "Leader of the Revolution" (Mojtaba).

Tasnim only quoted Hosseini as saying: "Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was injured by the blast wave, but he has now recovered and is in full health." The agency made no mention of the nature of the Supreme Leader's injuries.

Mojtaba had been absent for months during the American-Israeli war on Iran, which began in late February. The system only released written messages and posts on social media accounts attributed to him.

The most recent mention of Mojtaba regarding the war came from the opposition channel, which reported a deepening dispute between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the Revolutionary Guard, following Iran's recent attacks on the UAE that violated the ceasefire.

The channel indicated that Pezeshkian requested an urgent meeting with the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, to halt uncoordinated Iranian attacks on regional countries, which he feared would bring catastrophic consequences for Iran.
