Iraqi Decision to Close Shalamcheh Border Crossing with Iran

Reports from Iraq revealed early Saturday that the Iraqi government has decided to close the "Shalamcheh" border crossing with Iran, as a precautionary step after the latest drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

An Iraqi security source said the closure of the land border crossing with Iran was temporary, without disclosing the reasons behind the decision, according to the Iraqi news agency Shafaq.

The security source added that orders had been issued by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to close the crossing and evacuate personnel and staff from the site, according to the agency.

At the same time, Iraqi sources disclosed that a large-scale operation is currently underway in Iraq to track down those responsible for the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Earlier on Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Adhami dismissed the commander of Maysan Operations, in connection with these attacks, and ordered the formation of a investigative council regarding the leadership of the city's operations command.

These developments come hours after Saudi Arabia announced earlier Friday that its vital pipeline connecting the East and West had been attacked by drones launched from Iraq.
