Iraqi Interior Ministry Dismisses 38 Officers, 3,245 Absentee Personnel

The Iraqi Interior Ministry has permanently dismissed 38 officers after confirming their involvement in administrative and financial corruption cases, according to Maj. Gen. Mqdad Miri, head of the ministry’s Relations and Media Department, who made the announcement on Wednesday.

Miri stated in an official statement published on the ministry’s website that the ministry also ordered the dismissal of 180 personnel based on final judicial rulings tied to proven administrative and financial corruption. In parallel, the ministry terminated the service of 3,245 personnel who had absconded from duty as part of its broader efforts to reinforce discipline and uphold legal and professional obligations.

Disciplinary Enforcement Under Current Government

Miri emphasized that the ministry remains committed to a strict anti-corruption approach and to strengthening institutional discipline within the security apparatus. He affirmed that no individual enjoys immunity if found guilty of acts compromising integrity or damaging the institution’s reputation.

He noted that during the first 100 days of the current government’s term, the Interior Ministry implemented decisive measures demonstrating its serious and resolute stance toward any corruption case or breach of duty. He added that reform and accountability continue without exception, underscoring that safeguarding the security institution from corruption and reinforcing discipline among its ranks are fundamental to building a professional security apparatus trusted by citizens and upholding the state’s dignity.

Broader Anti-Corruption Campaign

The Interior Ministry’s actions form part of a wider anti-corruption drive launched months ago by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi. That campaign has led to the arrest of 12 current and former members of the Iraqi Parliament, four deputy ministers, and numerous directors general, advisors, and officials across various ranks on charges of financial corruption.

Authorities reported seizing assets including monetary amounts exceeding one trillion and 300 billion Iraqi dinars, large quantities of U.S. dollars, substantial volumes of gold bullion and jewelry, dozens of luxury villas and farms, hundreds of vehicles of recent models, and valuable watches.
