Iraqi Security Strike Dismantles International Drug Traffickers at Rabia Border Crossing with Syria
The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces announced the dismantling of a network of international drug traffickers at the Rabia border crossing with Syria, highlighting ongoing bilateral security cooperation.

The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced today, Saturday, that they have dismantled a number of major international drug traffickers at the Rabia border crossing with Syria.
In a brief statement, the organization noted: "Through a security operation, a number of major international drug traffickers were dismantled at the Rabia border crossing with Syria."
Syria and Iraq have signed security agreements aimed at controlling drug smuggling, allowing for joint operations and continuous intelligence coordination to curb international trafficking networks.
These joint security operations, conducted in cooperation between the Syrian Anti-Narcotics Directorate and the Iraqi General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, included targeted operations in several Syrian governorates such as Homs, Deir ez-Zor, and rural Damascus.
Both parties also rely on the exchange of prior information to monitor and pursue international trafficking networks with regional extensions that exploit the long shared border between the two countries. Additionally, security measures and military deployments are being tightened to monitor these common borders and prevent infiltration attempts or suspicious movements by organized crime gangs and smugglers.
This cooperation has resulted in the thwarting of numerous large-scale smuggling operations, the confiscation of millions of Captagon pills, tens of kilograms of hashish and narcotic substances, and the arrest of members of trafficking networks.
