Israeli Officer Caught Throwing Sound Grenade Inside Vehicle in East Jerusalem
Israeli police investigate after an officer threw a sound grenade inside a car in East Jerusalem, detaining Palestinians during a security raid.

The Israeli police announced on Monday that they are investigating an incident involving an officer who threw a sound grenade inside a vehicle in East Jerusalem, resulting in the detention of Palestinians inside the car.
Footage captured by cameras shows a Border Police officer throwing a similar sound grenade inside a car at the Qalandiya refugee camp, located north of East Jerusalem in the West Bank. This action trapped Palestinian passengers inside the vehicle during a security raid, according to the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz.
The Israeli police confirmed that the officer acted "in a manner inconsistent with procedures" and indicated that an investigation has been initiated by the Ministry of Justice, which is handling the case.
Incidents described by Israeli police as "excesses" by their personnel frequently occur during security operations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Non-lethal tools such as sound grenades are used by forces to control situations during raids.
Official data from the Israeli Military Attorney General's office shows that Palestinians from the West Bank filed a total of 2,427 complaints against the army and police for harming civilians between 2016 and 2024.
Investigations were opened in 552 cases, with indictments issued in only 23 cases, representing less than 1% of the total complaints. Regarding killing cases, which number 696 complaints, 195 investigations were opened and indictments were issued in only two cases, approximately 1%.
