Israeli police announced that Border Guard officers were attacked by civilians while on duty at a checkpoint at the Qalandia junction near the city of Jerusalem.

According to the police statement, the officers were in a vehicle at the checkpoint gate when a civilian vehicle coming from the direction of the West Bank attempted to bypass the checkpoint and enter Israeli territory. When the officers tried to approach the vehicle, several suspects emerged and began assaulting the officers and attempting to seize their weapons.

The police explained that one of the officers fired into the air in an attempt to deter the attackers, while another officer fired at the lower parts of the bodies of two of the attackers, after seeing his colleague being choked by the suspects.

It later turned out that the injured were two security guards, both of whom sustained minor injuries and received initial treatment from the officer who fired the shots, before being transferred to the hospital for further treatment. Several Border Guard officers also sustained minor injuries during the confrontation.

The police stated that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing to uncover its circumstances and identify all those involved.

In a separate incident, Israeli army forces and Border Guard officers managed on Monday evening to rescue ten Israelis who had deliberately entered the city of Qalqilya, located in Area (A) of the West Bank, in search of a motorcycle stolen from the settlement of Elad on Sunday.

Upon the forces' arrival at the location, they took measures to disperse the crowds and create distance between the Israelis and the city's residents, before safely extracting them all from the area without any injuries.
