Macron Urges Swift US-Iran Deal and Rejects Lebanon Escalation

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a swift agreement between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that the immediate priority should be to establish a ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz without any preconditions.

In a post on the platform "X" on Sunday evening, Macron stated that he had discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Macron conveyed the same message to all of them, stressing the necessity of reaching an agreement between Washington and Tehran quickly, and that this opportunity must be seized now.

He specified that the priority is to finalize a ceasefire deal and immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, without any prior conditions.

Following that, Macron indicated that discussions should continue to achieve a comprehensive and robust agreement on other critical issues, particularly nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as regional stability.

The French president affirmed France’s full readiness to play its role by assisting in the resumption of maritime navigation through the independent international mission established in cooperation with the United Kingdom, supporting nuclear negotiations with its expertise and capabilities, and contributing to establishing a necessary regional security framework alongside partners involved over recent months.

Macron also highlighted that regional stability must begin with Lebanon, where it has become essential to silence all weapons permanently.

He strongly condemned the current serious escalation taking place in southern Lebanon, stating that nothing justifies it.

Macron confirmed that Paris will continue to support Lebanese authorities in their efforts to restore state sovereignty and the unity of the country's territory.
