The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service issued a warning on Tuesday about Ukraine's alleged plans to conduct drone attacks against targets deep within Russia. According to the agency, these operations would be launched from Latvian territory to shorten the drones' flight duration. The intelligence service accused the Latvian leadership of adopting a hostile stance toward Russia.

Officials reported that Ukrainian military personnel have already been deployed to five Latvian military bases to prepare for the planned attacks. These maneuvers are described as part of Ukrainian President Zelensky’s efforts to demonstrate to his ideological and financial supporters in Europe that the Ukrainian armed forces maintain their combat capabilities and can still inflict damage on the Russian economy.

The report further indicated that Ukrainian drone operators have been sent to Latvia to carry out the planned missions. The Russian intelligence stressed that modern reconnaissance technologies enable reliable identification of drone launch points, highlighting what it called the naivety of the Latvian regime in this regard.

Moreover, the agency stated that precise information can also be obtained by analyzing drone wreckage, referencing a previous incident in December when Ukraine allegedly attempted a drone attack on the Russian president’s residence.

Mutual Escalations: Russian and Ukrainian Strikes

The intelligence service explicitly warned that the coordinates of decision-making centers on Latvian soil are well known, implying these sites could become targets. This statement underscores the potential for retaliatory or preemptive strikes amid ongoing hostilities.
