Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin confirmed the start of implementation of agreements to build a small nuclear power plant in Myanmar during talks with Myanmar’s leader Min Aung Hlaing in Moscow.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that Russia has begun implementing agreements to construct a small nuclear power plant in Myanmar. He made the statement during a meeting in Moscow with Myanmar’s leader Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently visiting Russia.
Mishustin stated that the project would provide a strong impetus for developing bilateral cooperation in related fields, including fundamental and applied scientific research. He described the facility as a new symbol of Russian-Myanmar friendship.
The Russian Prime Minister highlighted promising opportunities to strengthen trade, economic, and investment ties between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of creating favorable conditions for joint projects across industry, energy, transport infrastructure, and the agro-industrial complex.
Mishustin affirmed Russia’s readiness to share its latest advancements with Myanmar partners in digital economy development, autonomous electronic systems, and artificial intelligence applications.
He noted that the Russia-Myanmar Joint Governmental Commission—co-chaired on the Russian side by Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov—is responsible for monitoring bilateral cooperation files and resolving practical issues with Myanmar.
