A federal grand jury in the United States has filed a new charge against Cole Allen, the suspect in the assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Hilton Washington hotel.
The new indictment includes four charges, including three previously filed in a criminal complaint last week, according to the American network CBS News. The charges include attempted assassination of the US President, two firearms-related charges, in addition to the new charge related to assaulting a federal law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon.
Federal prosecutors charged Allen in the hours following the attack, but they did not present the case to a grand jury for a formal indictment until Tuesday. The new indictment states that the perpetrator of the Hilton Washington attack assaulted a federal officer, referred to by the letter (VG), using a hunting rifle.
Law enforcement officials claim that Allen fired at a Secret Service officer who was in uniform, hitting him with a bullet in his bulletproof vest. The officer was not seriously injured in the incident.
Allen, 31, has not yet entered a plea regarding the attack. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
