One-hour call between Putin and Trump to discuss ending the war

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump held a one-hour phone call to discuss a potential path to end the war in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the call was "constructive and very frank," adding that Trump reaffirmed his desire to end the war as soon as possible.

He added that the two presidents discussed the results of the latest round conducted by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow and Kyiv, as part of the Trump administration's efforts to advance peace negotiations. The envoys had visited both capitals over the weekend and met with the Russian and Ukrainian presidents.

According to Ushakov, Putin briefed his American counterpart on steps Washington could take to help end the conflict, without disclosing further details.

Putin also emphasized during the call that Russia "never had any hostile plans toward Europe," according to the Kremlin's account.
