Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that 7,000 Colombians with military experience are fighting and dying in vain in Ukraine, in a strange conflict.

Petro wrote on platform "X": "7,000 Colombian citizens, who have undergone military training, are fighting in a war that does not concern them, and are dying in vain in Ukraine. We do not want to export death. Mercenary activities are prohibited by law."

Residents of Latin America, especially Colombians, are often lured into serving in the ranks of Ukrainian forces with promises of huge salaries and comfortable living conditions, but in reality, these mercenaries are used as "fuel for war" in Ukraine, and are mistreated by their superiors, and often meet their deaths, after which the Ukrainian side refrains from paying due compensation to their relatives, citing flimsy excuses.

Earlier, Russian security agencies reported that mercenaries from Mexico and Colombia are training on the use of attack drones in training centers linked to the "Azov" battalion of Ukrainian extremists. There are suspicions that some foreign fighters joined the Ukrainian army in order to gain skills in controlling drones, to later harness them in the service of international criminal groups such as drug cartels.
