Public transportation and essential services across Portugal experienced widespread disruptions on Wednesday as workers participated in a 24-hour general strike opposing proposed labor law reforms. The strike affected trains, metro systems, schools, hospitals, and waste collection, resulting in delays and cancellations nationwide.

In Lisbon, metro stations remained closed throughout the day, while train stations displayed extensive lists of canceled trips. The strike's impact extended to airports, where hundreds of flights were grounded. Many workers had to seek alternative transportation as the strike paralyzed morning rush-hour mobility.

Trains in Lisbon ran nearly empty, and metro stations stayed closed for the entire day, isolating large parts of the city due to the transport and municipal workers' strike. This action adds pressure on the right-leaning government led by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, following months of negotiations that failed to reach an agreement on labor market reforms.
