Power outage hits thousands of homes and businesses in London
A widespread power outage affected parts of London on Monday, disrupting supplies to thousands of homes and businesses and impacting transport.

Parts of London experienced a widespread power outage on Monday after a fault in the underground electricity network disrupted supplies to thousands of homes and businesses, as well as affecting transport in the capital.
According to the “Anadolu” agency, the outage began at around 10:32 AM and affected approximately 32 postal districts, most of which were in East London. The company “UK Power Networks” stated that the cause was a fault in the local underground electricity grid.
The power cut led to the disruption of departure screens at “Liverpool Street” station, while several shops and offices remained without electricity. Offices reported disruptions to internet services and computer screens stopping work.
“Great Northern” train services were also affected, with trains unable to stop at “Essex Road” station following a loss of platform lighting. Passengers were asked to use “Old Street” or “Highbury and Islington” stations and allow extra time for their journeys.
The electricity network operator said it managed to restore power to 4,989 homes and commercial premises about 15 minutes after the outage began, before electricity was gradually restored in all affected areas by the afternoon.
The company did not provide further details regarding the cause of the fault that hit the underground electricity network.
