Al-Ikhbariya Syrian channel reported on Wednesday that a massive explosion shook Saraqib in northern Idlib.

The Syrian news channel indicated several injuries resulted from the explosion, which took place at a weapons store in the Namarah Tower near the Saraqib-Idlib road.

It also noted that the initial explosion was followed by several others, creating a huge smoke cloud over the city, with an initial casualty count of around eight injured.

A similar explosion occurred last week in the town of Binnish in the Idlib countryside, at a weapons depot, killing five people and injuring five others.

Since mid-last year, Idlib province, located in northwestern Syria, has witnessed repeated explosions at weapons and ammunition storage sites, resulting in dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, most of them civilians.

Syrian official authorities attribute most incidents to poor storage conditions, high summer temperatures, and human errors such as operating workshops near depots or unsafe handling of munitions and war remnants.
