President Aoun: Bashir's Message Remains Present in Our National Journey

On the 44th anniversary of the martyrdom of the late President Bashir Gemayel, President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun stated:

"Every year on September 14, Lebanon stands at a major milestone in its national memory, recalling the image of the elected president, the late Bashir Gemayel, who fell victim to treachery before assuming his constitutional duties, ascending as a martyr on the altar of the homeland, his name forever engraved in the hearts of Lebanese people as a symbol of faith in Lebanon as a mission, sovereignty, and freedom.

The late President Bashir Gemayel embodied, through his positions and struggle, a firm belief in Lebanon as a single entity—land and people—and expressed this belief through his immortal slogan 'Lebanon 10452 km²,' encapsulating a unifying national philosophy affirming that Lebanon, in its entirety, geography, and area, is an irrevocable homeland for all its children, indivisible and unimpaired, with no room for division, partition, or annihilation.

Today, as we commemorate his martyrdom, we reaffirm that his message remains present in our national journey, and that upholding the unity of land, people, and institutions is the best homage to the blood of martyrs who gave their lives for Lebanon. As we honor this occasion, we renew our pledge to continue building a strong, just state—one that alone guarantees the independence of its decisions, full sovereignty over all its territories, and the dignity of its citizens, worthy of the sacrifices made by the late President and his comrades.
