Reuters: Separate Talks Between Washington and Tehran Today or Tomorrow

A source familiar with the matter said there are expectations for mediators to hold separate talks with the United States and Iran, either today, Monday, or tomorrow, Tuesday, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Qatari mediators remain in New York.

According to Reuters' report citing the source, the talks will focus on a modified version of the seven-day proposal submitted by Iran on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Iranian sources earlier denied today, Monday, any scheduled new talks between Tehran and Washington, after US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of resuming them quickly.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA quoted a source close to the Iranian delegation present in New York for the UN General Assembly meetings as saying that this delegation "does not intend to hold negotiations with the United States."

Trump told Axios on Sunday that he expects talks with Iran to resume next week, following his rejection of Tehran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.

The site reported from informed sources that indirect talks between Washington and Tehran could take place starting Monday.

The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal revealed earlier today that negotiators are pressing Iran to make concessions regarding its nuclear program in an effort to revive ceasefire talks with the United States, in a race to prevent the conflict from escalating into full-scale war.

The Wall Street Journal reported today, Monday, that mediators involved in the talks described this step as a desperate attempt to persuade Iran to appease Trump on the issue that concerns him most.
