Rosatom Plans to Return Staff to Bushehr Nuclear Plant Within Weeks

Alexey Likhachov, the head of the Russian nuclear energy company Rosatom, stated that the company is confident it can send its personnel back to the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran within the next few weeks, provided that the security situation remains stable, according to Reuters.

Rosatom, responsible for constructing the second and third units at the Bushehr facility, had withdrawn hundreds of its employees from the site following the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, in late February as a precautionary measure.

During the conflict, Rosatom temporarily halted construction work on the new units due to security concerns. The company later reaffirmed its commitment to the project, emphasizing that completing the second and third units remains a priority. Despite partial evacuations, several hundred staff members have continued to be present at the site.

In March, Rosatom condemned an attack targeting an area adjacent to the Bushehr plant, confirming that radiation levels remained normal and no workers were injured.

The Bushehr plant is Iran’s first nuclear power station for electricity generation. Rosatom constructed the facility and continues to provide technical and operational support, including maintenance work, nuclear fuel supply, and management of certain technical aspects of the plant.
