Senegalese President Basseiro Diomaye Faye Launches New Party "Kiray"

Senegalese President Basseiro Diomaye Faye revealed the name of his newly established political party on Saturday, calling it "Kiray: Republican Nationals."

This announcement signifies the end of his association with the party "Pastef - The Patriots," which was previously led by his former ally and ex-Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

The term "Kiray" translates to "protection" in the Wolof language. President Diomaye Faye intends to adopt this concept as a guiding principle for all his future initiatives, according to a report by Radio France Internationale.

The creation of the new party follows a period of intense disputes between Diomaye Faye and the dismissed Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, who had been his partner and ally within Pastef.

President Diomaye Faye outlined the objectives of the new party as protecting the Republic of Senegal, safeguarding its institutions, and preserving ancestral values to pass them on to future generations.

He also stated that the party aims to "instill hope among all citizens across every segment of society." He emphasized that "the nation must rise above all divisions and personal ambitions" and expressed that "one may be an adversary for a day, but remains a brother every day."
