Nicolas Jackson’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico took a difficult turn when he was sent off in Senegal’s last friendly match against Saudi Arabia. The Bayern Munich forward received two yellow cards in rapid succession during the goalless draw at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Wednesday night.

Jackson entered the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute. Shortly after coming on, he had a chance to give Senegal the lead but missed a close-range opportunity, firing over the cross from Sarr. His performance then worsened as he received a first yellow card in the 82nd minute for dangerously raising his boot during a midfield challenge, making contact with an opponent’s chest.

Less than two minutes later, Jackson committed another foul when he slid into Saudi striker Abdullah Al-Hamdan near the halfway line, catching his heel. The referee issued a second yellow card, which led to Jackson’s dismissal from the game.

Senegal is drawn in a challenging World Cup group set to begin on Thursday, where they will face France, Norway, and Iraq.

Jackson’s Future at Chelsea

Jackson’s status at Chelsea remains uncertain following the World Cup. He is expected to return to Chelsea after his loan spell at Bayern Munich concludes. Initially considered for transfer, Jackson now appears to have a chance to earn a place in Chelsea’s first team under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea holds Jackson in “high regard” and plans to give him an opportunity to compete for a spot in the squad next season. His move to Bayern Munich in 2025 was reportedly influenced by a breakdown in relations with former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, who has since departed. With Alonso in charge, Jackson could remain at Chelsea and fight for regular playing time.

Jackson is contracted with Chelsea until 2033. Despite interest from other Premier League clubs, the 24-year-old striker is reportedly willing to stay at Chelsea if he can secure consistent minutes on the pitch. Chelsea also have Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Emmanuel Emegha as options for the centre-forward position.

Jackson, who is versatile enough to play on the wings or behind a central striker, joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 for a fee exceeding €35 million. During his loan at Bayern Munich in the 2025/26 season, he made 34 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists. However, Bayern chose not to exercise their €65 million buy-back option.
