Six inmates were killed and 15 injured during clashes at El Castillo prison in Mazatlan, Mexico, prompting a major security operation.

Six people were killed and 15 others injured on Thursday during violent clashes among inmates at the "El Castillo" prison in the Mexican city of Mazatlan, according to local media reports. The incident triggered an immediate response from authorities involving multiple federal and municipal security forces.
Reports indicate that gunfire erupted inside the facility around 10:30 a.m. local time (19:30 Moscow time). Following the outbreak of violence, authorities launched a comprehensive security operation. Elements of the Army, National Guard, Navy, and Municipal Police participated in the intervention to regain control of the situation.
The radio station "Formula," citing its correspondent in Sinaloa state, reported unofficial information confirming the death toll of six and the injury count of 15. This initial data was later corroborated by other outlets covering the developing crisis within the penitentiary system.
Newspaper "El Universal" detailed the aftermath of the clash, noting that injured individuals were transported out of the prison using approximately ten ambulances. Some of these vehicles left the facility under the escort of federal forces. The publication stated it obtained the casualty figures—six dead and fifteen wounded—from members of the security apparatus, adding that this information had been communicated to the families of the inmates.
In a subsequent statement, the Public Security Ministry of Sinaloa declared that the prison was back under control. Authorities confirmed they maintained a presence at the site to ensure order and safety. The ministry also noted that the remaining inmates were safe.
Local newspaper "Noroeste" reported that prison administration suspended family visits following the incident. Additionally, the State Attorney General's Office opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the violence. Local media observed that military personnel reinforced security perimeters outside the prison as relatives of inmates gathered, seeking information about their loved ones' status.
