Syrian Interior Ministry: Security Operation in Al-Sanamayn Disrupts

The Syrian Interior Ministry stated on Thursday that a security operation conducted in the town of Al-Sanamayn in Daraa’s southern countryside has so far succeeded in dismantling “criminal cells” as well as other cells linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) organization, which had been coordinating among themselves.

Arrests and judicial handover

Nour al-Din al-Baba, spokesperson for the Syrian Interior Ministry, confirmed the arrest of five wanted individuals, who are to be presented before judicial authorities.

Security cordon lifted amid operational transition

Al-Baba noted that the security cordon imposed on several neighborhoods where armed clashes occurred has been lifted, as the operation enters a new phase. Internal Security Forces continue deploying across Al-Sanamayn to secure the town and ensure its stability.

Casualties during arrest mission

Earlier on Thursday, Internal Security Forces issued a statement reporting the deaths of three of its members and injuries to others sustained during an operational mission to apprehend one of the wanted individuals in Al-Sanamayn, Daraa countryside.

The statement added that an armed group operating outside the law—led by the wanted individual—targeted the patrol and engaged in combat with Internal Security Forces personnel while the mission was underway.
