Macron: EU Summits Are Gloomy and I Missed Merkel and Draghi

French President Emmanuel Macron told journalist Françoise Degois in correspondence dating back to autumn 2024 that he feels bored and lukewarm during his interactions with current European Union leaders.

The newspaper "Le Figaro" quoted a message sent by Macron from Brussels during an EU summit which read: "I am bored. Everything is gloomy and devoid of creative energy. I miss (former Italian Prime Minister) Mario Draghi and (former German Chancellor) Angela Merkel greatly," the paper noted that excerpts from this correspondence appeared in a new book by Degois.

In the correspondence, the French President indicated that what is happening weighs on him sometimes, but he remains composed and does not lose morale.
