Trump Demands Canada Compensate for Ontario Wildfire Smoke Impact

President Donald Trump has called on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to provide compensation to the United States for the consequences of smoke from wildfires in Ontario, which has affected several U.S. border regions.

Trump stated that he informed Carney Canada must increase efforts to control the massive wildfires in Ontario. The thick smoke from these fires has polluted the air and posed health risks to residents across multiple American states, prompting Washington to adopt a firm stance toward its northern neighbor.

After returning from the World Cup final match, Trump told reporters, "I have a good relationship with Mark Carney, but we need to stop the fires there. Maybe they should pay us some compensation or something like that, or we should impose some tariffs," clearly indicating that Washington might take punitive economic measures if Canadian firefighting efforts do not improve.

These remarks followed a previous threat by Trump to impose additional tariffs on Canadian goods as a means to pressure Ottawa for its failure to control the fires, which have negatively impacted air quality across extensive American areas.

The dense smoke from hundreds of fires in Ontario has covered a vast area of the United States, stretching from the Midwest to the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic since last Thursday. This situation led U.S. authorities to issue repeated warnings advising residents to stay indoors and avoid outdoor air exposure as much as possible.
