US President Donald Trump said on Sunday evening that "things are going very well," in response to journalists' questions about a possible summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump's comment came as he returned to the White House, when reporters asked him if he intended to meet with Putin and Xi. However, he did not provide additional details about the potential summit or confirm his agreement to hold it, according to Fox News.

Putin had proposed holding a trilateral summit with Trump and Xi next month to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, without the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to The Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the discussions.

The newspaper reported that Moscow suggested holding the meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Shenzhen, China, noting that Putin raised the idea during a phone call with Trump on October 9.

The Wall Street Journal quoted a senior US official as saying that Trump has not agreed to hold the summit but may be open to the idea given his desire to end the war in Ukraine.

According to a former Russian intelligence officer briefed on the matter, Putin raised the idea during a phone call with Trump on October 9, which also resulted in an agreement for the United States to purchase Russian diesel fuel and facilitate its sale in global markets.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that there are discussions about a possible meeting, but said that there is currently no clear vision regarding its occurrence or agenda, while acknowledging that all three parties recognize the theoretical possibility of holding it.
