Trump Promises ‘Great Future’ for US-China Ties
Trump and Xi meet in Beijing, with the US president pledging a "great future" for bilateral relations.

A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping took place Thursday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where Trump declared the two nations would share a “great future.” During the talks, Trump stated, “It is an honor to be with you, it is an honor to be your friend, and the relationship between China and the United States will be better than ever.” He added that the two countries would enjoy a “great future.”
Xi Jinping, for his part, emphasized that China and the United States should be “partners, not adversaries.” Expressing “happiness” over Trump’s visit, Xi noted that “the world is at a crossroads” and looked forward to exchanging views with his American counterpart on several issues.
The encounter comes at a sensitive time, with Xi having warned Trump about the risk of conflict between Beijing and Washington if the Taiwan issue is mishandled.
