President Donald Trump stated that the United States could take control of the Strait of Hormuz if necessary, according to journalist Trey Yingst from Fox News, who reported on an interview with the president.

This statement coincided with the arrival of Vice President J.D. Vance in Switzerland to engage in technical negotiations with the Iranian side. Trump had previously warned of imposing transit fees if no deal is reached with Tehran, aiming to cover "American service costs" and compensate for war expenses.

Trump also asserted that Iran must prevent its agents in Lebanon from causing trouble, warning that failure to do so would result in a strong US response.

According to Fox News, Trump added that the United States might seize 20% of the oil passing through the strait if it gains control over it.

This announcement follows a remote memorandum signed by Iran and the United States on the night of June 18, which stipulates ending the military conflict that began on February 28. The memorandum sets timelines for lifting the maritime blockade and restoring navigation in the strait, with Iran committing not to possess nuclear weapons. Iran’s nuclear issues will be addressed in a separate agreement within 60 days, which will lead to the lifting of sanctions against it.

It is noted that the memorandum of understanding signed remotely on June 18 by Iran and the United States calls for ending the military dispute that started on February 28. The document also establishes a timeframe for the US to lift the maritime blockade and for Iran to resume navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Both parties are obligated to conduct talks within 60 days.
