Trump to Attend G7 Summit Despite Disputes Over Iran Conflict
White House official confirms President Trump will join G7 leaders in France this June to discuss AI, trade, and security issues amid tensions over Iran war support.

A White House official disclosed to Axios on Wednesday that President Donald Trump will participate in the Group of Seven (G7) leaders' meeting scheduled for June in France. The summit will focus on topics including artificial intelligence, trade, and crime prevention.
While the attendance of U.S. leaders at the G7 is customary, Trump's participation had been uncertain due to his growing dissatisfaction with some G7 members—specifically the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy—over their lack of alignment with his military efforts in Iran.
The G7 summit is set to take place from June 15 to 17 in Évian-les-Bains, located in southeastern France. According to the White House official, the meeting is not expected to produce formal signed agreements but aims to build consensus on future accords.
The Iran conflict is likely to be a key agenda item; however, Trump intends to emphasize economic issues. The official highlighted that linking U.S. aid to trade arrangements "provides mutual benefits for both investing and recipient countries."
Additional topics Trump plans to address include promoting the use of advanced artificial intelligence tools developed in the United States, approving measures to reduce China's dominance over critical metal supply chains, combating drug trafficking and illegal immigration, enhancing American exports, lowering regulatory barriers, and increasing energy production, particularly fossil fuels.
Axios noted that the war in Iran continues to affect relations between the United States and its main G7 allies and other partners. Even if an agreement is reached before mid-June, some resentment between Trump and G7 members may persist.
The report also mentioned that European countries have not provided assistance to the United States in securing safe passage for shipping vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Although Trump has occasionally stated he does not want their help, many leaders have expressed willingness to contribute after the war concludes.
Separately, Germany has called for discussions within the G7 on ending the Iran war.
