President Donald Trump revealed the new Air Force One, expressing gratitude to Qatar for donating what he called "the most luxurious plane in the world."

On Friday, President Donald Trump introduced the new Air Force One, the presidential aircraft, and extended his thanks to Qatar for donating what he described as "the most luxurious plane in the world."
Speaking inside a newly constructed hangar at Joint Base Andrews designed to accommodate the larger aircraft, Trump stated that the plane was "built with a level of quality that may never be repeated," and that it would end the "ridiculous" situation of other world leaders having more luxurious and imposing planes.
Standing before the aircraft, the president said, "This plane has been transformed into a flying White House with a level of luxury no one has ever seen before."
He added, "The craftsmanship on this plane is amazing. When you see it, you really won’t believe it. The quality of the wood, the quality of the materials, the quality of the engines. These engines are the best and most advanced in the world, and nothing compares to them." He also expressed, "It is a real honor, and I want to thank the Emir of Qatar (Emir Tamim bin Hamad), who is a wonderful man."
Trump invited accompanying journalists to tour the new plane before heading to Camp David in Maryland for the weekend.
The Boeing 747-8 aircraft is valued at approximately $400 million and is nicknamed the "palace in the sky." It is about 18 feet longer than the two current presidential planes and has wingspans roughly 30 feet wider, along with a more spacious interior cabin.
Trump noted that the two Boeing 747s previously used as long-range presidential aircraft since President George H.W. Bush’s era had visited 96 countries over 223 foreign trips.
A smaller version of the presidential plane remains in use for trips to smaller regional airports, such as flights to Trump’s golf course in New Jersey.
Qatar donated the plane last year. Trump repainted it in dark red and blue colors, replacing the historic light blue scheme used since President John F. Kennedy’s administration, and added paint waves to resemble the American flag waving.
Trump accepted the plane despite criticism from some of his Republican allies in Congress and conservative media figures who raised national security concerns and the possibility of the United States becoming indebted or reliant on a foreign country.
Security experts also questioned the conversion of the Qatari plane into a presidential transport, stating it would require substantial modifications and inspections.
However, Trump repeatedly defended accepting the plane, calling refusal of the gift "a stupid move." He had previously expressed frustration with the condition of the old presidential planes and Boeing’s slow delivery of the new generation of presidential aircraft, which are expected to eventually replace the Qatari plane, which he plans to place in his presidential library.
Trump revealed upcoming plans to use the new plane, stating he would fly it to Turkey next month to attend the NATO summit and then to China in November for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
He also said the plane would lead flyovers above the White House during Fourth of July celebrations and is equipped with new features, including Starlink satellite internet service provided by SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk.
NBC News reported that Trump also intends to use the plane for an upcoming trip to Mount Rushmore as part of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations.
