Trump Urges Europeans to Repay US Aid to Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump said he would ask Europeans to repay the value of aid the United States provided to Ukraine during his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden’s administration, in a post on his platform "Truth Social".

Trump wrote, "Hundreds of billions of dollars were given to Ukraine and NATO for free, Europe would have paid if asked, but we will now demand repayment, even with some delay."

Trump has been calling for Europeans to shoulder greater costs in Western support for Ukraine before his return to the White House in early 2025, but this is the first time he has hinted at the possibility of reclaiming funds.

Trump did not specify which countries would be targeted should he proceed with such a move.

The mention of aid costs for Ukraine came within a post primarily discussing the state of U.S. military stockpiles amid ongoing conflict with Iran in the Middle East.

He strongly rejected media reports over recent weeks about shortages in military supplies due to the war with Iran, affirming that the United States has "practically unlimited quantities of ammunition from medium to high categories".

However, he added that Washington is building up "stockpiles" to prepare for "any possibility," hinting at a current pause in U.S. arms sales abroad.

He wrote, "We are keeping them for ourselves… instead of selling them to others, but arms sales to partners and allies will resume soon."
