Trump: We Represent Two Different Systems With China, But Our Relations Are at Their Best

President Donald Trump said today Friday that he represents two different systems with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, but their relationship is at its best, as he put it.

Trump praised the "great friendship" linking him to the Chinese president during a reception at the White House marking Xi Jinping's historic state visit to the United States.

"I have built a friendship, indeed a great friendship, with President Xi, grounded in mutual respect and vital interests of our peoples," Trump said.

Xi, who is visiting the United States for three days, delivered a speech during an official dinner hosted at the White House in the American capital Washington.

The Chinese president stressed during the summit with his American counterpart that the world's two largest economies must avoid conflict and confrontation.

He emphasized that "our two militaries should maintain regular dialogue, improve communication mechanisms, and prevent crises."

"I look forward to in-depth discussions with President Trump on key issues concerning our bilateral relations and the global situation," Xi said.

Xi urged the United States and Iran to return as soon as possible to the path of resolving issues through dialogue and negotiation, calling on both countries to resume work on a memorandum of understanding reached in June aimed at ending the war and opening the Strait of Hormuz, ultimately leading to a comprehensive agreement on the nuclear file and other issues.

He said China has always believed in the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and security of all nations, and has consistently played a constructive role in easing tensions and calming situations, according to the official Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Xi Jinping added that China has encouraged relevant parties to commit to peaceful solutions and maintain momentum in negotiations.
